I dont even know where to start. We went sailing on sunday for 3 days, just got back lastnight. It rained most the time and was really windy the whole time. it got pretty scary at some points but we all lived and no one went overboard. yesterday afternoon was pretty wild. The waves were huge. massive swells and hard rain. Some of us stood outside to avoid getting sick. it was fun but scary. water was pouring over the front of the boat and we were almost right sideways sometime. its hard to explain, but it was crazy.
when we got back to town it was raining harder then ive ever seen before. all the roads were closed so everyone was stuck in town. all the hostels were packed full and lots were closed due to flooding. half the stores on the mainstrip had windows smashed out and are now shut down and have to be rebuilt. the brick sidewalks all washed away, the lagoon and all the pools are closed cause theyre full of mud. lastnight we went to every single hostel in town and not one had any beds. we went to all the hotels and got the LAST room in the city. we packed 5 of us into one small hotel room. today we found out that the highways going north are closed and all the other towns are starting to flood and the storm is getting worse. it is sunny here today but theyre calling for rain tonight. its just our luck that we are stuck in the most expensive town on the eastcoast in the first rainy season in 18 years.
our plan now is to try and get to the closest airport and fly to melbourne for our last 2 weeks. apperantly its nice there. if were lucky we will go watch some tennis to. anyway, lots to figure out in the next few hours so im out.
take care,
