So its been pretty hot the last few days. at least 35. trying to make the best of it but usually it gets the best of me and i end up sprawled on the floor watching some movie trying to stay cool by noon, along with everybody else. most people get up semi early and go to the beach planning to spend the whole day there, but its just to hot and humid so everyone is back to the hostel by 2pm usually. but the mornings are pretty successful so far. morning one consisted of about 5 minutes laying in the sun, then 2 or 3 hours playing in the surf. morning 2 started about the same, but we cut our swimming short and went for a walk up some hill and found some cliffs down to another beach. we couldn’t find a way to the bottom and about half way down we got scared and came back up. when i say we i mean me and Alex, Kirsten just lays on the beach the whole time soaking up skin cancer. anyway, morning 3 we got some surf lessons. 3 hours for $16, not bad. its pretty hard but i think it would be easier if there wasn’t so many stinkin people. everyone is crammed into this small area between rocks and the swimming zone. if you hit a swimmer you get major fines, and if your hit rocks you get really hurt. so trying to avoid those adds to the difficulty of learning to surf. none the less, about 2 and half hours into the lesson i rode my first wave. all the way into shore, didn’t even make a splash on my dismount, just stepped off into ankle deep water. it was good. on our last wave of the day me, Kirsten and this other girl rode in side by side…by side, it would have been picture perfect, but nobody was quick with a camera, oh well. Morning 4 i slept in till about 11, didn’t go in the sun all day really. Just nursed my burns and played battle ship. i won the world championship but it was close. i was down 3 ships to none but had a slick comeback.  this morning we hit the beach again. it wasn’t AS hot as the last few days but still uncomfortably warm. we, me and Alex again, went for a run. we ran the whole beach. way farther then it looked. but it was good. we saw lots of crabs.

tonight we are going to Rockhampton. it doesn’t have a beach. so it should be a nice break from the sun. its supposed to start raining again so who needs the beach anyway. we will probably hang out there for a few days, then go to Arlie Beach where we get on our sailboat. pretty stoked for that, i talk to a few people who have done it already and they all said its the highlight of their trip so far.

today i saw a huge lizard by the beach shower.

Great to hear about your adventures. I had a couple good laughs and was reminded how much I miss you and your sense of humor! We had a good Xmas, but we were missing your family. Have a great time and hopefully we’ll get a chance to see you when you are back.
Later,
Tara

Airlie beach is where we saw our first topless lady, she was old.

It’s – 30 something and I’m thankful for heated seats and wishing the steering wheel was heated too … hmmm I bet you’re missing home?!

hey man,

that beach is named after me. and i bet you and alex went “running on the beach” just to look at all the topless chicks, but as joel mentioned, they’re all old and look like saggy water-balloons.
